Frequently Asked Questions

What is an IPO?
An initial public offering is the first sale of shares by a company to the public, after which its shares are listed and traded on the stock exchange. Investors apply during the issue period at a price within the announced band.
How do I apply for an IPO through TECHTRADE?
Applications are placed through your TECHTRADE account using the UPI mandate process. You select the IPO, choose your bid quantity and price, and approve the mandate in your UPI app to block the funds.
What is a UPI mandate?
A UPI mandate blocks the application amount in your bank account without debiting it. If shares are allotted, the amount is debited; if not, the block is released. You must approve the mandate before the cut-off time.
What is a lot size in an IPO?
IPO applications are made in fixed multiples called lots, set by the company. Retail investors must apply for at least one lot and can bid up to the retail limit, currently ₹2 lakh per application.
What is the price band and cut-off price?
The price band is the range within which bids can be placed. Retail investors can select the cut-off option, which means agreeing to accept whatever final price is determined, improving the chance of allotment.
How is IPO allotment decided?
If the retail portion is oversubscribed, allotment is done by lottery, with each applicant eligible for at least one lot. Applying for more lots does not improve your odds of receiving the minimum allotment.
When do I find out about allotment?
Allotment status is usually published within a few working days of the issue closing. You can check via the registrar’s website, the exchange website, or your TECHTRADE account.
What happens if I don't get allotment?
The blocked amount is released back to your bank account automatically, usually within one to two working days of the allotment being finalised. No amount is debited if you receive no shares.
Can I modify or cancel my IPO application?
Yes. Bids can be modified or cancelled before the issue closing time. Any change requires re-approval of the UPI mandate for the revised amount.
When does the stock start trading after an IPO?
Listing usually takes place within three working days of the issue closing under the current T+3 timeline. Shares are credited to your demat account before listing day.
