Frequently Asked Questions

What is a mutual fund?
A mutual fund pools money from many investors and invests it in a portfolio of securities managed by a professional fund manager. Each investor holds units representing a proportional share of the fund’s holdings.
What is the difference between SIP and lumpsum?
A SIP invests a fixed amount at regular intervals, spreading purchases across different market levels. A lumpsum invests the entire amount at once. SIPs suit regular savers; lumpsum suits investors deploying a single larger sum.
Can I hold mutual funds in my demat account?
Yes. Mutual fund units can be held in dematerialised form in the same demat account as your shares, letting you view your entire portfolio in one place.
What is NAV?
Net Asset Value is the per-unit value of a mutual fund, calculated at the end of each business day. Purchases and redemptions are processed at the applicable NAV based on when your request is received.
What is an expense ratio?
The expense ratio is the annual cost of managing a fund, expressed as a percentage of assets and deducted from the fund’s returns. A lower expense ratio means less of the fund’s performance is absorbed by costs.
How long does redemption take?
TECHTRADE supports both new and experienced investors. Beginners get branch and phone support alongside the digital platform. That said, all market investments carry risk, and derivatives trading in particular carries a high risk of loss — read the risk disclosures before you begin.
Is there a lock-in period?
Most open-ended funds have no lock-in. ELSS tax-saving funds carry a mandatory three-year lock-in. Some funds apply an exit load if you redeem within a specified period after investing.
Can I stop or pause a SIP?
Yes. SIPs can be paused or cancelled through your account.
Are mutual fund returns guaranteed?
No. Mutual fund investments are subject to market risk, and returns depend on the performance of the underlying securities. Read all scheme-related documents carefully before investing.
